After decades in the commercial construction industry, including having a part in the Meadowlands old Giant Stadium project, I gradually made the transition into constructing hot dog sandwiches. My dad would tell me “Stop killing yourself in construction. Buy a hot dog cart and make the same money”. So in 2001, when things in the building industry slowed down, I took my dad’s advice and purchased my hot dog cart (like the right photo).
The first one was a push cart that I stored in my home garage. I’d push it up and down the streets and boardwalk of Asbury Park, New Jersey. Decided the Sabrett Hot Dog offered the best product. So to this day it remains my choice for hot dogs. Sabretts are known for being all natural and “snaps” as you eat them. And my customers love them in the natural casing.
Very popular with my customers is the Italian Style Double Hot Dog and also the Sausage Sandwich. This is a “knock-off” of the Italian Hot Dog and Sausage popularized by the famous Jimmy Buff of Newark, New Jersey.
My big “Claim to Fame” is in serving Bruce Springsteen and his family hot dogs on Ocean Avenue in Asbury Park when he was playing at the Stone Pony.
In 2008 I moved to Clearwater Florida and took my now mobile hot dog cart with me. My fabulous hot dog and sausage products, including our fan favorite meatball sandwich, are all here with me.
The name Clear Water Hot Dogs is for two reasons. First because I live in Clearwater, FL. The other reason emphasizes our message that “Fresh is Best in Clear Water”. Up north the “Jersey Dirty Water Hot Dog” is something people like. The water was considered “dirty” not actually from dirt but because over time by cooking the hot dogs all day long in the same water the oils in the hot dog flavored and darkened the water. But either way you look at it, my customers prefer “Clear Water” hot dogs because “Fresh is Best”.
The best part of serving hot dogs is 
all the people I meet. In Asbury Park, New Jersey I got to meet and know all kinds of people. Interacting with everyone is so interesting and fun. A hot dog vendor becomes like the bartender where people enjoy talking about their lives.
In years past I enjoyed serving others my delicious sandwiches on the Jersey Shore Boardwalk. Today the enjoyment is the same while growing my business here in Clearwater.
